Stuffed Jalapeño Poppers

Who loves their air fryer? Me!!!! The air fryer makes cooking these jalapeño poppers so quick and easy! I love eating them as a late-night snack when we are binge watching our favorite shows. They are also the perfect appetizer for your next football party. You can make them as mild or as spicy as you'd like by choosing how much of the seed/membrane you leave in the pepper. I usually take most of it out. I like a little kick but I don't want to be sweating while I eat! If you don't have an air fryer, they cook perfectly in the oven too!

Ingredients

  • 9 large jalapeño peppers
  • 9 slices of bacon
  • 8 oz. cream cheese
  • ¾ tsp. onion salt
  • 1 c. freshly shredded sharp cheddar cheese

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°. Preheat air fryer to 400°. See note if you do not have an air fryer.
  • Place bacon on baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in the oven for 10 minutes (it should be cooked through but still very flexible).
  • Cut off the stems of the jalapeños and slice in half lengthwise. Remove the seeds and membrane...or leave some of it in if you want your poppers extra spicy, this is how you control your heat. I like to wear gloves while I do this. If you don't...be careful what you touch afterwards;)
  • Fill each jalapeño with cream cheese (about 1 tablespoon in each half, but this may vary depending on the size of your pepper).
  • Lightly sprinkle the cream cheese with onion salt, then top with the shredded cheddar (about 2 teaspoons for each popper), you may have to gently press it into the cream cheese for it to stick.
  • Place half a piece of bacon on top of each popper. Place the poppers in the air fryer and cook at 400° for 6-7 minutes...until cheese is melted, and bacon is crispy.
  • Let the poppers cool for a few minutes and enjoy!

Notes

  • If you don't have an air fryer, you can bake the poppers in a conventional oven for 20-25 minutes, at 400°.
  • When I forget to preheat my air fryer, the cooking time is about 10 minutes vs. 6-7.
  • Buying a block of sharp cheddar and shredding it yourself is the way to go.  The cheese will have more flavor and will melt better!
