Mya's Iced Latte

This recipe is named after my stepdaughter because it reminds me of her. I used to make a giant pitcher of this whenever we went on our summer camping trips. It was a special request when she got older. Now she is all grown up and asking me for the recipe to share with her husband. It only took me 3 months to type it up, ha ha! Here you go Mya Mya, love you so much!!!

Equipment

  • Cheese Cloth
  • Fine mesh strainer

Ingredients

  • 3 c. coffee grounds
  • 2 quarts water
  • 1 c. whole milk
  • ½ c. half and half
  • 14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk

Instructions

  • Combine coffee grounds and water in large pitcher and stir to combine.
  • Let mixture sit at room temperature overnight.
  • Place two layers of cheese cloth in a fine mesh strainer. Strain coffee mixture through cheese cloth/fine mesh strainer into a large container or pot. Discard the cheese cloth/solids.
  • Add whole milk, sweetened condensed milk and half and half to the coffee concentrate. Stir until well incorporated.
  • Store in a covered pitcher in the refrigerator and when ready to serve, pour over ice.
  • Sip and smile as you think about all the money you're saving by not frequenting the coffee drive-thru on the daily;)

Notes

  • If you would like to adjust the milk and sugar content to satisfy your particular taste buds, simply stop after step 3.  Keep the coffee concentrate in the refrigerator and add cream and sugar as needed.  Keep in mind that to sweeten the cold concentrate, you need liquid sweetener (sweetened condensed milk, flavored syrup, etc.)  If you add regular granulated sugar to a cold drink, it will not dissolve.  That's why sweetened condensed milk works well!
